Humanities - The Twiddle Thumbs

Humanities, a subject broadly marked by the study of human society, history and social science are characterized unfavorable to majority. Studying history or philosophy is not propitious comparable to hardheaded subjects namely science or commerce.  Where science is considered to be a cerebral subject endowing students to knock their heads hard, humanities is treated as futile subject, a stream outlining weak section.Students with a notion of studying dillydally commonly exercise their choices on humanities. These are some abstract principals associated with a student of humanities.

Definite percentages for streams are determined in schools. Lowest percentage is accorded to humanities and highest to science followed by commerce. Besides the level of interests in the streams, students are allotted to subjects on the grounds of their marks. A student with his interest lying in science stream cannot opt for one, if he has scored below the definite marks required for opting science. The qualifying marks to meet the requirements to opt science are above 90% and the lowest will conclusively be driven to humanities. A below average student will eventually be accredited to humanities if he is incapable to make it to science or commerce.Students securing higher marks in science stream are honored unlike students in humanities that inculcate a sense of failure in the students. This discrimination has led to humanities losing importance as a subject.

Humanities are looked down upon by most parents. Students must have experienced differences in opinions amidst family when it comes to opting for humanities as the prestige of astute medical and non-medical subjects has overtaken insignificant humanities. Parents have a significant say in influencing student’s opinions. They will barely acknowledge humanities as it is notwithstanding to their ostentatious stature.

Humanities define a limited scope ahead. Few calculable prospective jobs are available to a humanities pass out. Students can opt for teaching as their line of work or adhere to counseling and social groups or embark upon their not for profit organizations. These posts are not characterized as much a big league as becoming doctors, engineers or chartered accountants by virtue of career prospects and earning potential.

Besides, institutes for humanities or political science are not acknowledged in India. Tremendous money has been flown in building innumerable institutes for science and commerce subjects however, humanities is camouflaged with inferiority. Lack of infrastructure and funds for humanities institutes have resulted in lesser number of students opting this field.

Agendum for Documentation of Experiments

Documentation provides official information for transparency and constancy in organizing data systematically. An eloquent appellation, affiliation, time frame, strategies and well-defined quotations are the harbingers of a good documentation that can be presented in either tabular form or paragraph form.

Citations, a reference from a book or an author can be used in the documentation. Citations can be picked up from various sources like textbook, trade magazine articles, catalogs, websites, academic general or conference papers.

Besides, a document must adhere to few elements that will help produce a good report. A simple and easy to comprehend document must be presented without usage of idioms and phrases. A good document must not be dominated by creative graphical representation rather it should have informative and logical data and must include finite information required. An error free and grammatically correct report marks a good impression to the opposite party. In addition to this, a clogged up data is never preferred. Segregating data that holds prime significance helps one to thwart clumsiness.

The first and foremost point is the introduction that includes the rationale of the experiment. It exemplifies how a problem has to be solved and steps undertaken to solve a problem. An introduction section contains content that facilitates the reader to apprehend the main body. The next step in the documentation of experiments is Method that states the management and strategies of the experiment. A comprehensive study of the experiment is incorporated in the main body while preparing documentation. Subsequently the outcome is results. Generally, tables and plots are used to epitomize the experiment. Colorful representation will create chaos only. Rather a simple display of the chart can provide fruitful results. At times, attraction also creates distraction and data seems to be misleading. The dots plotted must have a good precision to visualize and provide 100% accuracy.Right set of data and best plot format and style must be undertaken to plot more proficiently. Tiny plots might create a complication to the reader. The outcomes put forward the evaluated data and are confined only to the data available. Last but not the least, a bound and determined discussion of the experiment takes place. A discussion is the analysis of results and involves many viewpoints.

A good documentation of experiments is characterized as a simple, transparent and accurate presentation of the facts precisely.

Many times, it might be so that the entrepreneur wishes to work independently or to do something that will be pioneering. In this case, the only need is of that distinct idea to get started. Here are some tips for you to come up with an innovative idea easily.

First, you need to consider the skills or talent you have. You must have developed specific skills in your academic career, which can act as the foundation for your new business idea. Therefore, it makes sense to trace all your past learning and practical experiences. Further, you must also recollect the different projects, academic or job-based, that you have participated in. More probably, you must have excelled in those projects that were found to be quite interesting, useful, or enjoyable. However, do not restrict yourself to these projects to know your skills. Consider those participations you did outside work or college, too. Recollect what you enjoyed doing while not at work, which can be sports related, hobby or a charity.

Second, always be in touch with the current events so that you can tap the latest market opportunity. For this, keep reading the latest business news, magazines, and latest trends. More effectively, it would be wise to conduct a survey on the customer changing needs and demands so that you can grab the most promising business idea.

Third, try to connect the obtained facts or trends by mentally creating a relationship or correlation. When you are able to join them together, you get a transparent view of something hidden behind the scene, which nobody has managed to spot, recognize, or market before.

Fourth, have a long-term vision, not short-term. While creating a new idea, you need to consider some local and global trends apart from the demographics. You need to consider those trends that have growth potential in the future. Find this out from the media that acts as a comprehensive source of information. Then, you can think about the rewards of stepping into that new business. This is the process of testing your own idea. Doing so should urge you to lay the foundation of your new business on originality and permanence.

Using Social Networking for Research Work

With the advancement in the Internet technology, we now live in a closely connected society due to which getting information on any matter has become possible in real time. This is actually changing the manner in which one now performs the research work. Gone are those days when researchers would wait for a publication to publish a journal paper or for an annual meeting for conducting their research. Today, you can instantly access them or watch a live meeting via a social network.

The far-reaching connectivity of social networks triggers a new reliable way of developing one’s own academic network. Such a network is essential to be in touch with the skilled mentors, high-grade colleagues, and professors so that you can seek instant help at any point while doing your research. This is independent of whether you are in the same university or are a part of that conference or not. Although this does not mean that physical interaction is avoidable because it is vital to some extent, social networking can help you develop an instantly accessible academic network via comprehensive connectivity.

Facebook is one of the famous social media sites in use today. Facebook groups and pages tend to offer a supportive network for researchers. These features help in sharing several events, meetings, videos, discussions, photos, and debates due to which the researchers can easily get access to the desired information. This happens without having to search for more or revealing any private information.

Even Twitter has become the reliable source to publish information. Participants can easily tweet about presentations while collaborating with other attendees. Further, several links are posted to different articles, journals, and papers due to which it becomes very quick to find information. At the same time, it is also instant to gain feedback right away from the concerned people instead of waiting for an e-mail response.

Further, blogging also has a vital role to play in facilitating your research. Several famous blogging sites are Tumblr and Blogger are used by publications to post published papers and abstracts. They also post book reviews, thesis summaries, social issues, conferences experiences and personal tales. Therefore, referring to some blogs and subscribing to their newsletters is a smart way of gathering information, sharing thoughts, getting feedbacks, raising profiles to reach out more people, and keeping a memo of ideas and conversations.

It is ideal for the young researchers to have a profile on all these networks apart from publishing in top journal papers and attending conferences. Social networking facilitates collaboration in real time due to which many big problems of research are solved.

How to Conduct an Ethnographic Study

Ethnography is a method to conduct social science research that depends mostly on personal experiences and likely participation, not on observation. It is actually a science that aims to comprehend the customs, ethos and belief systems of diverse groups of people or institution. Therefore, an ethnographer who is conducting a research looks for mixing with a group of people or institution.

The research’s focal point tend to cover rigorous language and culture education, exhaustive study of a particular domain and implementation of different historical and interview methods. Usually, the researcher gathers interviews and documentation during the research, which in turn, generates descriptions, quotations, and excerpts to creating a storyline including visuals and additional artefacts. Depending upon the ethnographic methods employed, various new paradigms are formed, which facilitates further experimental testing.

One of the best ways to conduct ethnographic research is to explore the culture of the targeted people by living among them. Keep in mind that ethnographic study is not essentially the examination of the effect of a specific event on the targeted group. Therefore, the research might need you to live for years even in rough conditions while observing what happens. It is quite common to make such sacrifices while conducting the study.

It is required to spend maximum time with the people you are examining. For example, in case they are at a workplace, it is advisable to go there daily just as they do. Even more useful will be to do some tasks that they do so that you can easily co-relate to their work life. You may even consider taking a survey or interviews apart from only observing them to come up with a comprehensive ethnographic research on their beliefs.

Interviewing people who have something in common, including yourself, is another way to perform an ethnographic research. This is quite handy because not all have the same feelings towards a particular event. When you study those who resemble you in a few ways such as social status and race, you can easily come to know how events leave an impact on everyone. It is better to do so without assuming that you are aware of things. Such research often has a period.

Always track back for changes in the study environment. This is useful when you are studying in a workplace. You can always ask the same queries at different time intervals to find out whether their responses have changed or not.
